MOSCOW, August 3. (RIA Novosti)-Two economic and political leaders of the future - Russia and China - are taking their relations to a new level with clear ambitions to influence the global geopolitical order, two respected dailies reported Wednesday.

Izvestia and Nezavisimaya Gazeta dailies wrote that a joint military exercise, Peaceful Mission 2005, which is scheduled for late August, is designed to show this.

According to Goldman Sachs, a U.S. investment bank, the main global trends in 2050 will have been formed by the so-called BRIC, which is made up of four rapidly developing nations: Brazil, Russia, India and China. According to Izvestia, Brazil trails Russia in all respects, and Russia's relations with India and China have been given priority in recent times. So far, this has not been done to counterbalance the West.

There are problems in Russian-Chinese relations, but they obviously feature more positives than negatives. Territorial disputes have been settled without any particular difficulties, Chinese investment is welcome in Russia and concerns about an increase in Chinese workers coming to Russia can be eased by resolving the problem of migration.

The Russian economy, primarily consumers and gross domestic product, needs Chinese workers and investment. In this context, the joint military exercise combines politics, geopolitics and economic, as well as being significant for the two countries, which view themselves as future superpowers.

Nezavisimaya Gazeta wrote that the biggest concerns of the United States and other Pacific countries were that the exercise would be conducted under the aegis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which comprises China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. While the organization used to be regarded as an anti-terrorist one, it is now beginning to show the signs of a military bloc. If India joins the SCO, a bloc covering Eurasia might emerge, which, no doubt, would bring an end to the unipolar world that emerged after the Cold War.
