Mikhail Kamynin said the project had "strategic significance within the successfully developing energy dialogue between Russia and Germany, and the European Union as a whole, and also substantiates the relevant 'road map' plan to establish a common economic space in Europe."
The spokesman said that energy cooperation was one of the most important aspects of Russian-German economic contacts.
Kamynin cited statistics that showed that Germany covered 30% of its energy needs with supplies from Russia.
In addition, the diplomat said the two countries were preparing a joint declaration on energy cooperation that would reflect their intention to consolidate long-term cooperation in this field to the benefit of the two nations and Europe in general.
