MOSCOW, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - Yuliya Tymoshenko's government was not dismissed because of "corruption scandals" that have emerged in recent days, but because of the Cabinet's systematic mistakes, which have led to socio-economic problems, a senior member of the lower chamber of Russia's parliament said Thursday.

Konstantin Kosachev, the chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee, said the decision to dismiss the government did not come as a surprise.

"The dismissal of the government proved the well-known fact that Yushchenko's team entered the former government and acted not as a team, but as a group of people who came into the elections with a single program 'against' [the former government]."

Ukraine is to Russia, not only a neighbor, but also a friendly state and Russia highly depends on the events in Ukraine, Kosachev said.

"It is necessary for Russia to assist Ukraine in overcoming the crisis, stabilizing the situation and the political life of the country," Kosachev said.
