MINSK, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Friday that the West was spreading anti-Belarusian propaganda to discredit his country.

"They are trying to stir up religious and interethnic hatred...and implant the idea in people's minds that the authorities are incapable of efficiently governing the country," Lukashenko said at a session of the State Security Council (KGB), the country's security organ.

Lukashenko specifically named a seminar on Belarus, held in Lithuania under the auspices of NATO. He said the West is using NATO as a cover to launch "information strikes" against his country.

On Thursday, the KGB deputy chairman said the committee would prevent any attempt at destabilization or a revolution in the country.

"Any color revolution in Belarus is obviously impossible," Viktor Vegera said, referring to the popular uprising against former regimes in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan that resulted in a change of power in the countries.

He said the KGB had the situation in the republic under control and would crush any destabilization attempts.
