Update: Russia puts temporary ban on Polish crop product imports

MOSCOW, November 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight has decided to impose temporary restrictions on Polish produce, poultry, pork and beef imports beginning November 14, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said Thursday.

This decision was made following Poland's repeated violations of Russia's phytosanitary demands, the ministry said, citing "systematic supplies of crop products with fake Polish phytosanitary certificates, such as products that had not undergone quarantine phytosanitary control."

The federal service has warned that fake certificates provide no guarantee of safety for imported products.

The service has informed Warsaw that, given the circumstances, trade will be suspended until Poland ends its violations of Russian and international phytosanitary regulations.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Moscow had no hidden agenda.

"The Polish side also admits to serious violations in supplies to Russia of the above-mentioned products and has proposed holding urgent negotiations in Moscow on this issue to the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight," the Foreign Ministry said.
