"We want mayoral elections," young people chanted, waving their party flags.
"Moscow is deprived of rights more than any other city in Russia," deputy party leader Sergei Mitrokhin said. "Other cities have the right to elect mayors, whereas Moscow has been deprived of this."
This demand is central to the party's campaign in the run-up to the Moscow legislature elections scheduled for December 4.
The Yabloko members also complained that famous people who would not actually work in the Moscow Duma topped certain parties' election lists.
"Using those who enjoy people's confidence but will not work in the Duma as 'locomotives' is not fair," Nikita Belykh, leader of rightwing party Union of Right Forces who took part in the rally, said.
For example, incumbent Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, who said he would not be a Moscow Duma member, is leading the list of Kremlin-supported United Russia's Moscow branch, Belykh said.
