ST. PETERSBURG, December 2 (RIA Novosti-Northwest, Olga Vtorova) - The work to survey the seafloor segment of the North European Gas Pipeline (NEGP) will be completed by the end of the year, a hydrographic expert said Friday.

"With favorable weather conditions, the work to conduct an area survey of the seafloor segment of the NEGP route will be completed by the end of the year," Sergei Reshetnyak, the chief engineer of the hydrographic company responsible for the survey, said.

Reshetnyak said two hydrographic vessels had performed about 75% of the job.

The North European Gas Pipeline project envisions the construction of a natural gas pipeline via the Baltic Sea from the Portovaya Bay in Russia, near the Finnish border, to Germany. The pipeline will have an annual capacity of 55 billion cu m and is expected to cost some 2 billion euros.
