GROZNY, December 14 (RIA Novosti) - The chairman of the people's assembly, the lower house of Chechnya's parliament, said Wednesday that he was positive Chechens would welcome the idea of renaming the capital of Grozny Akhmad-Kala, in honor of President Akhmad Kadyrov, killed in a terrorist attack in 2005.

"Kadyrov is a reputable statesman known throughout the world," Dukvakh Aburakhmanov said, expounding on the idea put forward by lawmakers Wednesday. "He gave his life ensuring the Chechen people's interests and deserves to have his name immortalized."

The lower house made the decision to rename the war-torn republic's capital and set up a group to draft a bill on the issue.

Aburakhmanov said the initiative would be brought up for debate at organizations and mosques in Chechnya and that the appeal to the central government had already been prepared.

Lawmakers also discussed the house's structure during Wednesday's session. They have established 14 committees and appointed three deputy chairmen.

Abdurakhmanov said the house would move from the heavily guarded government premises to the agriculture ministry building in order to be more accessible.
