Russia to test launch more than 10 cruise missiles in 2006
MOSCOW, December 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is planning to test launch more than 10 cruise missiles next year, head of strategic air command Igor Khvorov said Tuesday.
"We are planning to test launch more than 10 cruise missiles," he said at a news conference. "I cannot say for sure, but it could be even more."
He also said the strategic air force command was planning a series of exercises in Russia's North and Far East, and in the Atlantics.
Khvorov said the country's aircraft modernization program would focus on electronics and the adoption of bombers for the use of conventional weapons.
The general said the Russian air force was not planning to form new organizational structures or abolish existing ones.
He also said there were no plans so far to expand the network of airfields for strategic air force command.
"The operational airfields allow us to conduct flights in a normal regime in any direction," Khvorov said. "Our priority is to maintain the existing airfields."
