MOSCOW, March 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russian and Iranian officials have met in Moscow for further closed consultations on Iran's controversial nuclear research program, an source close to Russia's negotiators said Tuesday.

The source said the talks involved Seyyed Ali Hosseini-Tash, the deputy head of Iran's influential Supreme National Security Council.

The Moscow talks are likely to highlight a Russian proposal to enrich uranium for Iran. The initiative was widely seen as a compromise in the crisis surrounding the Islamic Republic, which many in the West suspect of pursuing a covert nuclear weapons program. Tehran has consistently denied the allegation, but last week said the Russian offer was no longer on its agenda after the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN's nuclear watchdog, decided to refer the Iranian nuclear file to the UN Security Council. The latter has the power to impose sanctions on Tehran if it is found to be in breach of its international commitments.
