"Russia's position has not changed," Sergei Kiriyenko told reporters during an official visit to Kyrgyzstan. "We made a proposition that could resolve the [Iranian nuclear] problem."

BISHKEK, April 20 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian offer to enrich uranium on its soil for Iran's controversial nuclear program under a joint venture is still on the table for discussion, Russia's top nuclear power official said Thursday.

"Russia's position has not changed," Sergei Kiriyenko told reporters during an official visit to Kyrgyzstan. "We made a proposition that could resolve the [Iranian nuclear] problem."

He said the long-running crisis could only be solved by diplomatic means, and that all countries have the right to a civilian nuclear program.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced last week that the Islamic Republic had successfully produced low-enriched uranium for use in nuclear power plants. Iran has been accused of pursuing a covert weapons program, but has denied the accusation and said it has a right to civilian nuclear research.

Russia's initiative to produce enriched uranium for Iran's civilian nuclear reactors has been seen as a compromise in the ongoing international dispute over the country's nuclear program.
