PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, April 21 (RIA Novosti, Oxana Guseva) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale, the strongest since 1900, rocked the northern part of the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia's Far East early Friday, a local emergencies official said.
Four people have been injured, and several buildings, including a school and a kindergarten, seriously damaged in the Koryak area town of Tilichiki, eight time zones from Moscow, the spokesman said, adding that the quake also damaged a local airport's runway and cut power supplies in several villages.
Another quake, now with a magnitude of 6.2, hit the same area several hours later. There were no immediate reports on the damage or casualties.
