MOSCOW, April 24 (RIA Novosti) - The government is planning to create a special agency to oversee Russia's customs checkpoints, a deputy prime minister said Monday.

"In order to coordinate activities of checkpoints, we intend to set up a special governmental agency that will control all customs checkpoints," Alexander Zhukov said.

He said a new draft law would mean there would be only two organizations - the border service and the customs service - that control Russia's borders.

Currently, Zhukov said, Russia has "many border checkpoints located in buildings and other facilities that belong to private companies."

He said the government's new program aimed to buy out such facilities from private owners, and if this was not possible then to build new buildings for checkpoints.
