Bakhmina, deputy head of the Yukos-Moskva legal department, was found guilty Wednesday of tax evasion and of embezzling money from regional oil company Tomskneft.
"We consider the Simonovsky [District] Court's ruling baseless, and ask the Moscow City Court to revoke it, since the court's conclusions do not correspond to the facts established by the court," Alexander Gofstein said.
Olga Kozyreva, a member of Bakhmina's defense team, said the defense asked the Moscow City Court to acquit Bakhmina, as no crime had been committed.
Bakhmina was arrested on December 10, 2004, following an investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office, which said she was part of a group that embezzled property worth a total of 8 billion rubles (about $300 million) belonging to regional oil companies Tomskneft and Eastern Oil Company.
