MOSCOW, May 1 (RIA Novosti) - Trade unions are holding demonstrations Monday dedicated to Spring and Labor Day throughout Russia.
Over 15,000 representatives of the Russian capital's trade unions and the regional office of the United Russia pro-presidential party took to the streets to take part in a demonstration and a rally in downtown Moscow.
Parliament deputies, trade union leaders and Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov greeted the rally participants. "We, Muscovites, the city's workers, can celebrate May 1 with a normal working mood," Luzhkov said. "This is the result of your work for the benefit of our city and our country."
The mayor said the 22% growth of the economy's real sector was a merit of workers.
Over 10,000 trade union representatives took part in a demonstration and a rally in the southern Russian city of Volgograd, and over 20,000 in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg.
