MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - Three people were killed and one injured when a group of tourists fell into a gorge in the Altai mountains in southeast Siberia, the emergencies ministry said Saturday.
"The accident took place when a group of four tourists was climbing up Mount Kurmudu, located 560 kilometers [about 350 miles] southeast of the town of Gorno-Altaisk," the ministry said, adding that the tourists were from Novosibirsk, a major city in West Siberia, 3,200km (about 2,000 miles) of Moscow.
"Two people were killed immediately, one died later of wounds, and the fourth received serious injuries," the ministry said.
A helicopter left Gorno-Altaisk for the site at 10 a.m. local time [3 a.m. GMT] and is expected to arrive at 12.30 p.m. local time (5.30 a.m. GMT).
