Lawyers of Klebnikov-case notary appeal re-arrest

MOSCOW, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - Lawyers acting for a Moscow notary acquitted of murdering Forbes Russia editor Paul Klebnikov but re-arrested on fraud charges said Monday they had filed an appeal against his detention.

A jury acquitted Fail Sadretdinov and two other defendants, Chechens Kazbek Dukuzov and Musa Vakhayev, of Klebnikov's killing in 2004, but the notary was detained and charged a week later with fraud while registering an apartment deal in 2002. Investigators said Sadretdinov had used a forged will to take possession of an apartment in Moscow.

But lawyer Ruslan Zakalyuzhny told a news conference that he was appealing the detention. "We have appealed the ruling of the Zamoskvoretsky Court that sanctioned Fail Sadretdinov's arrest. We consider this ruling illegal and unsubstantiated and ask that our client be released from custody."

Zakalyuzhny said earlier his client's arrest was "revenge for the acquittal."
