Russia, Bulgaria ink program to step up trade

MOSCOW, May 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Bulgaria signed a program Wednesday designed to invigorate trade and business contacts, the Russian co-chairman of a bilateral inter-governmental commission said.

The program offers a range of measures to ensure easier access to Russia's markets for Bulgarian companies, diversify trade commodities, and balance trade.

"For us it is important to bring radical changes to the structure of the commodity turnover between the two countries, although trade is continuing to grow every year," Sergei Naryshkin said. "Last year alone, it increased 50%."

He added that Russia wanted to see more Bulgarian-made machine-building products on its markets.

Russia's exports to Bulgaria are currently dominated by energy resources, while Bulgaria's exports to Russia declined dramatically after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
