MOSCOW, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's uranium supplies are in near catastrophic condition and action is needed as a matter of priority, a deputy natural resources minister said Friday.
"We have an import-export balance, but no domestic consumption or production balance," Alexei Varlamov told an energy conference, adding that the ministry was aiming to work with officials in the sector to improve uranium production.
"The ministry is drafting a program to develop uranium deposits," Varlamov said.
He added that 2005 had already seen a rise in Russia's uranium reserves.
