MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Speaker of the lower chamber of the Russian parliament Boris Gryzlov said Monday that Russia and China could increase their trade to $60 billion in the future.
"The goal to increase the [bilateral] trade to $60 bln is quite attainable," Gryzlov said at a Moscow meeting with Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress standing committee.
In 2005, the bilateral trade exceeded $29 bln, the speaker said.
Energy-hungry China is looking toward strengthening economic ties with Russia in a bid to secure a source of steady energy supplies for future economic development.
"China is among rapidly developing countries and a major consumer of energy resources that we produce. We will naturally seek a partnership that fully meets our economic interests on world markets," President Vladimir Putin said at a May 25 Russia-EU summit in Sochi, a resort on Russia's Black Sea coast.
