MOSCOW, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - Air space and river navigation will be closed for security reasons in St. Petersburg during the summit of the Group of Eight industrialized nations in July, the G8 organizing committee said Tuesday.

The committee said railways into and out of the city would not be closed.

Navigation on the Neva River and the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland would be banned July 13-17 for all vessels except those participating in the summit, slated for July 15-17.

"Air traffic at Pulkovo [airport] will be closed from July 15 to 17," the committee said, adding that the airport would service only special and charter flights connected with the summit.

The committee also said the Russian Transportation Ministry had informed international organizations, shipping companies and airlines of the decision.
