SUKHUMI, June 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has completed Sunday the rotation of its peacekeeping contingent in Georgia's breakaway province of Abkhazia.
Russian peacekeepers have been monitoring peace in Abkhazia since the end of the Georgian-Abkhaz armed conflict in 1992-1993.
According to Vladimir Anikin, the spokesman for the CIS Joint Peacekeeping Force, at 11:45 a.m. Moscow time (07:45 a.m. GMT), the 529th separate motorized infantry battalion of the 131st Maikop brigade set off for Russia from Ochamchira.
Before the peacekeepers' dispatch, General Sergei Chaban, the commander of the peacekeeping contingent in the conflict area, gave awards to some of the servicemen for their mission in the conflict area.
