ST. PETERSBURG, June 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian ice skater Yevgeny Plyushchenko has a new reason to celebrate as he has become a father, the Russian Figure Skating Federation said Friday.
The Olympic and world champion's wife Maria gave birth to son Kristian, who weighs 3.5 kilograms (7.7lb), Thursday afternoon in a hospital in St. Petersburg, where the couple lives.
"Mother and the child are doing fine," the federation's press service said.
Plyushchenko, 23, stormed to victory at the Turin Olympics earlier this year with a virtuoso performance to Puccini's Tosca and has also conquered many hearts in his homeland and overseas with diverse shows, including one routine to the Tom Jones hit Sex Bomb.
