Gazprom says domestic gas prices unaffected by Turkmen increase

MOSCOW, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom (RTS: GAZP), Russia's natural gas monopoly, said Wednesday a rise in tariffs on natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan would not affect domestic prices in Russia.

The Central Asian republic announced earlier Wednesday it was planning to increase prices for its natural gas from $65 to $100 per 1,000 cubic meters.

"Not a single cubic meter is imported in Russia [for domestic needs], therefore the price rise will not affect domestic prices," said Kirill Seleznyov, head of Mezhregiongaz, a Gazprom-owned domestic gas seller.

Turkmen gas deliveries to Russia have been increased to 30 billion cubic meters in 2006. Of this amount, 15 billion cubic meters have been contracted for the first quarter at the price of $65 per 1,000 cu m.
