MOSCOW, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - One man is reported to have been wounded in a shootout in southern Moscow, police said Thursday.
"The incident occurred at 12.50 Moscow time [8.50 GMT] on Izyumskaya Street [in the Yuzhnoye Butovo district]," a source said.
The police representative said unidentified assailants had opened automatic gunfire from a Mitsubishi at a Russian-made Zhiguli car.
They then put the wounded Zhiguli driver in the Mitsubishi and one man took the wheel of the other car before both vehicles disappeared from the scene, he said.
Although violent incidents, including mafia-style hits, were commonplace in Russia in the 1990s as various gangs sought power and property in the wake of the Soviet Union's collapse, incidents of the kind have since become rarer as the country has achieved relative stability.
