MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's upper house of parliament endorsed Friday a bill on reducing the length of mandatory army service.
Viktor Ozerov, head of the Federation Council's committee for defense and security, said in 2007 the draft service would be reduced from two years to eighteen months and to a year in 2008.
The bill also eliminated a number of deferrals for army service.
