MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's GDP grew 8.1% in May and inflation will not exceed 0.5% in June, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade said.

"Inflation is estimated to be no higher than in May," the ministry said.

In January-May, inflation was 6.2%.

Growth in consumer prices slowed in the first five months to 5.9% against 7.3% in the same period of 2005. The ministry registered a slowdown in inflation to 0.4% in April and 0.8% in March on the consumer market.

"There has been an increase in supply on the consumer market, which is facing tough competition from imported goods as the ruble appreciates," the ministry said.
