MOSCOW, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned a lower court's acquittal of four men charged with the attempted murder of a top official in the government of the southern republic of Daghestan.

The Russian court ordered a retrial for Gazimagomed Gairbekov, Magomed Gairbekov, Omar Alilov and Askhabali Gazimagomedov, who were indicted last year in connection with two attempts on the life of Daghestan's First Deputy Prime Minister, Amuchi Amutinov, but were cleared of all charges by the region's Supreme Court in February.

A car bomb went off on a highway in Daghestan's capital, Makhachkala, in November 2004 as Amutinov was passing by in his armored Mercedes. No one was hurt in that first attack.

In February 2005, a similar assassination attempt on Amutinov was staged in the Daghestani town of Kizlyar. The deputy prime minister and his entourage again escaped unscathed, but the blast killed the chauffeur and two passers-by.
