ST. PETERSBURG, July 14 (RIA Novosti)-Russia is not intending to put forward a motion to discuss "frozen" conflicts in the former Soviet Union during a summit of Group of Eight leaders this weekend, a presidential aide said Friday.

Sergei Prikhodko said. "If [our] colleagues raise this issue, then we will take part in the discussion. South Ossetia is an important issue, as are relations between Russia and Georgia, but I do not expect this issue to dominate."

Earlier Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said that the G8 leaders would probably discuss frozen conflicts, particularly in its breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, where Russia has peacekeepers.

The leaders of Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada will begin a three-day summit in St. Petersburg Saturday.
