MOSCOW, July 15 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian peacekeeper was wounded when an explosive device went off in the zone of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict, a senior military commander said Saturday.
"An unidentified explosive device went off near a checkpoint, injuring Private Kondratov," said Valery Yevnevich, deputy commander in chief of the Russian Ground Forces, adding that the serviceman had undergone an operation, and that his left foot had been amputated.
Joint Peacekeeping Forces headquarters said the situation in the conflict zone remained tense.
