The leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan and Canada focused on Africa during last year's summit in Gleneagles, Scotland.
And the issue has again been in the spotlight during Russia's debut summit in Strelna, outside St. Petersburg.
"We will review progress, and identify the next steps to support Africa's successful development, at the 2007 G8 Summit in Germany. Our goal remains a democratic, prosperous and peaceful Africa," the statement said.
The leaders said further international community's efforts would seek to combat infectious diseases, and promote education and energy security in Africa.
They also said $92 billion had already been allocated to cope with emergencies in Africa.
"Donors' efforts over the past year, in partnership with local leaders and the international community, have helped avert famines in East and Southern Africa, where more than 26 million people had been at risk," the statement said.
