Two large arms caches found in Chechnya

MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) - Police have found two large arms caches in the troubled Republic of Chechnya in Russia's North Caucasus, a source in the local law-enforcement bodies said Sunday.

Police found the first cache in the village of Starogladkovskaya in the Shelkovskoi district in northeastern Chechnya. The cache contained an RPG-26 grenade launcher, a mortar and a home-made grenade launcher, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two large-caliber shells, a mine, eight rounds for grenade launchers, two grenades, more than 100 7.62mm cartridges and 100 grams of plastic explosives, the source said.

Police found the second cache in the basement of the former water pumping station in the city of Argun in eastern Chechnya. The cache contained an RPG-26 grenade launcher, two home-made grenade launchers, three Kalashnikov machine guns, two Kalashnikov assault rifles, 326 30mm cartridges, four mines, 14 rounds for grenade launchers, four grenades and more than 150 cartridges of various calibers.

"All the weapons and ammunition have been seized and an investigation has been launched," the source said.
