PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - Nine fishermen are missing at sea after their boat capsized Friday morning in stormy weather in Russia's Far East, rescuers said.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said the boat was floating in the Sea of Okhotsk, about 600 meters from the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula at a depth of five-six meters.
Gale force winds of 20 meters per second and rough seas are hampering the rescue effort, a spokesman said, and a border guard ship cannot approach the boat in shallow waters.
Rescuers learned about the incident from the captain of a trawler near the scene of the accident.
