MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - A criminal case against a woman whose teenage son died after she had spoon-fed him alcohol since he was a little boy has been sent to court, Russian prosecutors said Friday.

The General Prosecutor's Office said the 15-year-old had been hospitalized in June in the central Russian town of Kostroma with symptoms of intoxication, acute renal failure, chronic hepatitis and other alcoholism-related diseases. Two days later he died.

Prosecutors initiated legal proceedings against his mother and urged the court to bring to book anyone who had failed to take preventive measures to help the teenager.

Investigators said the woman had been giving her son alcohol in a spoon since he was five. Later the boy quit school and drank alcohol-containing lotions with his mother. After he became an alcoholic in 2004, he constantly felt ill and could hardly get up from bed, according to the prosecutor's office.
