MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Base inflation in Russia stood at 4.5% during the first six months of 2006, Russia's top statistics body said Monday.
The Federal State Statistics Service said consumer prices rose 6.9% during the first half of 2006, and that inflation in July was 0.7%.
The Finance Ministry earlier said the government plans to contain inflation at 9% in 2006 (compared with 10.9% in 2005), having raised the target from 8.5%, and to cut it further to 6-7% in 2007, and to 4-4.5% in 2008.
