MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian pop singer remains in critical condition after an armed attack on his car early Saturday, his spokeswoman said Monday.

Avraam Russo, 37, was attacked in Moscow at about 3 a.m. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the hip and calf, and was taken to a Moscow hospital where he underwent surgery.

"Russo is in critical condition," said Anna Isayeva. "He is in intensive care."

When asked how long the singer might stay in intensive care, Isayeva said, "Doctors cannot say exactly. We think one or two days."

Isayeva said Russo was conscious but "has not commented on the incident." She added that even his family was not allowed to see him.

Moscow prosecutors said they were considering several versions. They said Russo was already questioned, but that there were no arrests or suspects in the case yet.

Prosecutors also said an automatic weapon was discovered in a yard in central Moscow on Sunday, and that it could be the weapon used in the attack.

"The weapon has been sent for examination," the prosecutors said.

Turkish-born Russo obtained Russian citizenship in the late 1990s, and started his singing career in Russia in 2000. He quickly rose to fame after a duet with Kristina Orbakaite, the daughter of Russian pop music prima donna, Alla Pugachyova.

Russo's wife is expecting a baby.

It is the second attack on the pop singer. In the winter of 2004, he was kidnapped by several men and thrown into a car. Later, Russo was found unconscious on a street with a broken nose, concussion, brain injury and bruises. Law enforcement agencies at the time suspected a racially motivated attack, but no suspects were found.
