PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale struck the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, in Russia's Far East, a local seismic station said Friday.
The epicenter, which was identified at about 11.30 p.m. local time [10.30 a.m. GMT], was 90 kilometers (55 miles) northeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional center.
No casualties, destruction or tsunami threat have been reported.
This is the second earthquake to hit the seismically unstable region in seven days. August 25 saw a magnitude 6.4 quake near the peninsula's southwestern coast.
