MOSCOW, September 15 (RIA Novosti) - Two people were killed after a trainer plane crashed in southern Russia, a spokesman for the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said Friday.
"The tragedy occurred at 14.00 Moscow time," the spokesman said, adding that a Yak-52 aircraft belonging to the Federation of Aviation Lovers had crashed 2 km (1 mile) from the city of Stavropol.
Emergency services are working at the site.
The Yak-52 trainer plane was designed by the Yakovlev design bureau in 1974 to train civil aviation pilots.
The plane is a two-seat version of the Yak-50, an aerobatic plane. Its maximum speed is 280 km/h (174 mph). It is popular with Russia's aviation clubs.
