NAZRAN, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - Five gunmen suspected of involvement in two bloody attacks on police and troops in Ingushetia have been arrested in Russia's North Caucasus republic, a local police source said Sunday.

One man was arrested on suspicion of being involved in militant attacks on Ingushetia in June 2004, when 78 people were killed, including five prosecutors and 35 police officers, and 114 people were wounded. The militants seized a large amount of small arms and set a police precinct and some other buildings ablaze.

"A local resident has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in an armed attack on law enforcement bodies in the republic in June 2004," a police source said.

The other four arrestees are suspected of blowing up an armored vehicle in early September 2006. Four soldiers were killed and four injured in the explosion.

Three of them were arrested in their apartments in Nazran, Ingushetia's largest city, during a police operation, the other was detained in neighboring North Ossetia.

The source said police had seized Kalashnikov assault rifles, a carbine, a Makarov pistol, a hunting rifle, and ammunition from them.
