GROZNY, September 18 (RIA Novosti) - An Interior Ministry contract soldier was hospitalized with a leg wound after a checkpoint in eastern Chechnya was attacked by unidentified assailants, local police said Monday.
A police source said the incident occurred at 21.20 Moscow time (5.20 GMT) on Sunday, in the Kurchaloyevsky district of Chechnya.
"Unidentified assailants driving a Zhiguli car opened fire on a mobile checkpoint manned by Interior Ministry troops near a village of Dzugurty," the source said.
He said a soldier was hospitalized with a leg wound, but that his condition was satisfactory.
Police are conducting a search for the assailants, the source said.
