The UN peacekeeping force confirmed Sunday that Israel had withdrawn from south Lebanon, putting a formal end to a nearly three-month invasion of the country that began after Hezbollah militants seized two Israeli servicemen.
"The completion of the pullout of Israeli troops from Lebanon is good news," Mikhail Kamynin said. "It is a new important step toward fulfilling UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which has laid the groundwork for a long-term settlement between Lebanon and Israel."
He said Russia expected all parties to strictly adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, adding that some of its provisions were yet to be fulfilled.
He said Russia would continue to work with all parties concerned to promote a lasting settlement between Lebanon and Israel, aimed to achieve comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
