Vasily Tsibliyev said a nationwide study conducted by the center has shown that health resorts in the republic of Bashkortostan, a gateway to Siberia, offer the best conditions for astronauts to rest and recover.
He singled out the spa resort of Krasnousolsk as the prime destination.
"This is a perfect place for astronauts to recuperate," he said after signing an agreement with Bashkir Prime Minister Rafael Baidavletov to use some of the republic's health resorts for post-mission recovery.
Later on, Bashkir resorts could also be used to accommodate astronauts undergoing pre-mission preparation, he said.
"An additional accord will be signed later on to regulate the pre-mission training of pilots in a recreational environment."
Tsibliyev said Bashkortostan has long-standing ties with federal space research and training institutions, and that Bashkir honey is part of the space diet of Russian cosmonauts.
Importantly, Bashkortostan is only a short distance from Kazakhstan, home to Russia's Baikonur cosmodrome, and the landing zone for most Russian spacecraft.
