Four Russian Embassy officers in Macedonia were attacked and beaten by a group of intoxicated hooligans Sunday night in a bar in Skopje.
"The Russian Ambassador in Macedonia [Vladimir Solodtsinsky] has filed a note of protest with the Macedonian Foreign Ministry urging the Macedonian authorities to find and punish the attackers as soon as possible," an embassy spokesperson said.
Svetlana Solodchuk said Russia asked Macedonia to investigate the incident in a prompt and objective manner, and to inform the Russian Embassy of its results.
According to earlier reports, the Russian officials sustained bodily injuries, cuts and bruises, and tests showed there was no alcohol in their systems.
Konstantin Bersenev, first secretary of the Russian Embassy, said Macedonian authorities promised to address the incident at a government meeting Tuesday.
"We hope we will receive preliminary information on the investigation tomorrow [Tuesday]," he said, adding that some reports indicated the suspects in the attack have already been identified.
