MOSCOW, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - A higher minimum wage will help fight grey schemes, the speaker of the lower house of Russia's parliament said Sunday.

The pro-Kremlin United Russia party earlier submitted a draft law to the State Duma on raising from September 1, 2007 the minimum pay to 2,000 rubles (about $75) compared to 1,400 rubles (about $52) as proposed by the government.

"Importantly, the increase in the minimum pay will deal a blow against grey wage schemes and boost tax revenues," Boris Gryzlov said.

The initiative to raise the minimum pay to 2,000 rubles was worked out by United Russia and the Federation of Russia's Independent Trade Unions, Gryzlov said.
