MOSCOW, November 17 (RIA Novosti) - Two bodies have been pulled from the water from a sunken Russian fishing vessel off Kunashir Island, part of the Kuril chain bordering on Japan in the West Pacific.
Twelve fishermen from the 14-man crew were rescued, a Russian coast guard spokesman said Friday.
The spokesman said the last missing sailor was found dead early Friday.
The schooner Yoshi maru-31, owned by a Kuril-based Russian company, sank Thursday 6 kilometers (about 3.5 nautical miles) off Kunashir Island when a sudden storm broke out, according to a preliminary investigation.
Prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation into the accident under the article "Violation of safe sailing rules and water transport use that entails death through negligence."
