MOSCOW, November 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Missile Forces and Artillery will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art reconnaissance systems, increasing their reconnaissance and target acquisition capability by a factor of 10, the MFA commander-in-chief said Friday.
"Today, the MFA's radar and sound ranging systems ensure reconnaissance and effective engagement of targets at a distance of up to 20 kilometers, but within the next two or three years we are planning to attain a distance of 250-300 kilometers," Col. Gen. Vladimir Zaritsky said.
He said priority is being given to unmanned aerial vehicles, specifically the Tipchak tactical aerial reconnaissance system that can determine target coordinates 40 kilometers away from a ground based command-and-control station.
