NOVOSIBIRSK, December 7 (RIA Novosti) - The prosecutor's office of the city of Tomsk in West Siberia said Thursday it has opened a criminal case against the mayor on charges of abuse of office and extortion.
Prosecutors said Mayor Alexander Makarov and a relative are accused of extorting 3 million rubles (about $114,285) from citizens by threatening to destroy their real estate and preventing them from rebuilding.
