KIROV, January 26 (RIA Novosti) - A chemical weapons disposal complex in European Russia has destroyed 30% of the chemical ordnance designated for disposal under a federal program, a consultant in the regional conventional problems department said Friday.

Lyubov Cherezova said the Maradykovsky complex in the Kirov Region, 700 miles east of Moscow, had disposed of 1,341.883 metric tons of dangerous chemical substances since it opened last September.

"Thereby, we have destroyed a third of the poisonous substances scheduled for disposal under the second stage of the federal program," Cherezova said, adding that the deadline for the second stage was April 29, 2007.

"In all, Russia is scheduled to dispose of 8,000 metric tons of poisonous substances by that deadline, which amounts to 20% of the country's overall chemical weapons stockpile," Cherezova said, adding that no environmental violations had been registered.
