MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - Rescue and repair teams are working around the clock to restore power to the southern part of Russia's Black Sea coast, the emergencies ministry said Wednesday.

Sleet coated power lines and strong winds caused an electricity blackout in the region Tuesday. Towns from Tuapse to Adler were left without power following a transmission line failure.

The ministry said 52,000 children stayed away from schools and preschools in the city of Sochi.

It said trucks will provide drinking water and that the city has a day's reserve of fresh water.

The ministry said earlier that power has been partially restored for traffic lights and signal posts.

The press service of Russian electricity monopoly Unified Energy System said power on the Black Sea coast will be fully restored by Wednesday evening.
