NAZRAN, February 8 (RIA Novosti) - Two militants were killed and five detained in a special operation in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, a spokesman for the local prosecutors office said Thursday.
The spokesman said the militants were suspected of having fired Tuesday on a Russian military column consisting of two cars carrying 26 military servicemen in the neighboring republic of North Ossetia. No one was killed or wounded in the attack.
"The prosecutors offices of Ingushetia and North Ossetia conducted a joint special operation, as a result of which two militants were killed and five detained," he said.
The spokesman said the dead militants were identified and their houses searched by police, who discovered automatic weapons, ammunition, anti-personnel landmines and explosives in one of the homes.
A criminal investigation has been launched.
